Digital Literacy through Storytelling

English Language Arts + Moving Image/Visual Arts

In this artifact, I developed a curriculum for the NYC Department of Education (grades 6-12) Language Arts program aligned with DoE common core standards. This artifact showcases not only the final product but also my thinking process, through a series of mindmaps that visualize the overlaps and connections between program and course goals, materials, and assessment; I used these visualizations to orient myself, develop ideas for authentic materials, and structure the curriculum. The final document is meant for administrators to validate course effectiveness and measure students’ learning, and for teachers to be able to tailor the curriculum to their classroom needs. This design has yet to be tested; one of the challenges of implementation has been the complexity of my visualization, which seems overwhelming to those outside the Art and Design fields, especially administrators. Even though I find a lot of value in this artifact, I believe that some of the process documentation I share here are unnecessary to the final purpose, which is implementation.
